Restricted Items (in Checked Baggage, Carry-on, and on Your Person)

For your safety and to comply with international regulations, there are restrictions on the items you can bring in your baggage. Dangerous goods are items that could be harmful to health, safety, property, or the environment. Please check the information below to see what dangerous goods are allowed, what’s prohibited, and where they can be carried—on your person, in your hand baggage, or in your checked baggage. If you need approval to carry certain dangerous goods, please contact us at least three working days before your flight date.

Note: You must declare your hazardous materials to the airline. Failure to comply with all aspects of the dangerous goods regulations may result in legal penalties.

2. Acceptable as checked baggage or carry-on

The “Safety data sheet” (SDS) of the ammunition will provide this information, generally under the Section 14 of the SDS. Ammunition shall be packed separately from the baggage containing the firearm, inside a robust, secure container (i.e., a strong wooden, metal or fiberboard box or other packaging) specially designed to carry small amounts of ammunition and capable of being locked. Ammunition may only be carried for individual use. Ammunition for use by more than one passenger may not be combined into one or more packages and carried by one passenger in the booking. Camping stoves and fuel containers that have contained a flammable liquid fuel. with empty fuel tank and/or fuel container. To ensure safety, the empty fuel tank and/or container must be allowed to drain for at least 1 hour, the fuel tank and/or container must then be left uncapped for a minimum of 6 hours to allow any residual fuel to evaporate. Required documents vary depending on the case, so once we receive your request, our DG team will guide you on the specific documents needed. To avoid inconvenience, please submit your request at least three working days before your flight date.

3. Guidelines for Travelling with Lithium Batteries in SalamAir Flights

3.1 Lithium Batteries, Power Banks, Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) and/or Portable Medical Electronic Devices (PMEDs)

The below SalamAir procedures for the acceptance of lithium batteries and battery-powered devices shall be followed:

1. All batteries must be of a type that meets the requirements of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, Subsection 38.3.

2. You shall carry only the lithium battery-powered devices and spare batteries required for personal use during travel.

3. Spare batteries and power banks carried on SalamAir flights should preferably have a charge level below 25%. If recharged before travel, you shall allow the device to cool down before packing. Charging power banks or portable electronic devices (PEDs) immediately before boarding and storing them in overhead lockers should be avoided.

4. Portable Medical Electronic Devices (PMEDs) containing lithium batteries like POC (Portable Oxygen Concentrator) are permitted under the same provisions applicable to PEDs.

5. Spare batteries, power banks, and portable electronic devices (PEDs) shall be packed separately. Wireless power banks must be switched off to prevent unintentional charging of nearby devices. Adequate separation between spare batteries shall be maintained.

6. Spare batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits by placing them in the original retail packaging or by otherwise insulating terminals, e.g., by taping over exposed terminals or placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch. Spare batteries are permitted in carry-on baggage only.

7. Any lithium battery-powered device that becomes hot, emits smoke, or appears damaged shall be immediately reported to SalamAir crew members or airport staff.

8. Mobile phones, laptops, cameras, and other lithium battery-powered devices (including Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs)) should preferably be carried in cabin baggage only and are not recommended for carriage in checked baggage.

Note: However, they may be subject to specific SalamAir restrictions on the size and weight of baggage permitted in the cabin.

If devices are to be carried in checked baggage:

a) Measures must be taken to protect the device from damage and to prevent unintentional activation.

b) The device must be completely switched off (not in sleep or hibernation mode). When devices are carried in checked baggage, they must be completely switched off (not in sleep or hibernation mode), unless:

- Lithium content does not exceed 0.3 g for lithium metal batteries per device, and
- The Wh rating does not exceed 2.7 Wh for lithium-ion batteries per device.

9. E-cigarettes (where permitted), including e-cigars, e-pipes, and other personal vaporizers containing batteries, are lithium battery-powered devices that use heat to vaporize a liquid to simulate the act of smoking. They must be individually protected to prevent accidental activation and shall be carried only as carry-on baggage.

10. Spare lithium batteries and power banks shall be protected against short circuit by keeping them in their original retail packaging or by insulating the terminals using tape or protective covers, and they are permitted in cabin baggage (carry-on) only.

11. If cabin baggage is required to be placed in the aircraft hold at the boarding gate, all lithium batteries and battery-powered devices shall be removed prior to acceptance.

12. Passengers carrying more than fifteen (15) Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs) or more than twenty (20) spare lithium batteries (excluding power banks), containing lithium batteries exceeding 100 Wh or 2 g lithium content, shall obtain prior SalamAir approval*.

13. Lithium batteries ( excluding Power banks) exceeding 100 Wh, including those used in professional equipment such as large cameras, drones, or power tools, shall require prior SalamAir approval before carriage*.
Note: Lithium batteries exceeding 160 Wh are not permitted on SalamAir flights.

14. Recalled, defective, damaged, modified, or visibly swollen lithium batteries, power banks, electronic devices, or e-cigarettes are not permitted on SalamAir flights.

15. In the interest of aviation safety, SalamAir has revised the following requirements regarding the carriage and use of power banks onboard aircraft:

Passengers are permitted to carry a maximum of two (2) lithium-ion power bank(s), each not exceeding 100 Wh. The watt-hour (Wh) rating must be clearly marked on the power bank. Power banks without a visible Wh rating may be refused for carriage.
Power bank exceeding 100Wh are not accepted on SalamAir flights.
Power bank(s) must be individually protected so as to prevent short circuits when not in use
Power bank(s) must be carried in carry-on baggage only and are not permitted in checked baggage.
Power bank(s) must not be recharged using the aircraft power supply at any time during the flight.
Power bank(s) shall not be stored in overhead lockers and must remain accessible with the passengers.
The use of power bank(s) to charge or power other electronic devices is not permitted during taxi, take-off, and landing.
Recalled and damaged Power bank(s) not permitted in Salamair flights.

*Approval requests shall be submitted officially via email to dg.approvals@salamair.com  at least three (3) working days prior to the flight date. However, airport staff may assist passengers in obtaining approval during the check-in process, subject to time availability.

Note: Passengers are responsible for ensuring that lithium batteries, power banks, and electronic devices comply with SalamAir requirements. SalamAir reserves the right to refuse carriage of any item that cannot be verified as compliant.

3.2 Smart Baggage and Smart Vehicles Powered by Lithium Batteries:

Definition:

Smart luggage refers to bags or suitcases that incorporate built-in electronic features designed to improve convenience, security, or tracking for travelers. Depending on the model, smart luggage may include power banks with USB charging ports, weight sensors to prevent overpacking, electronic locking systems, GPS tracking devices with or without GSM capability or Bluetooth, RFID and Wi-Fi technology or even motorized/self-propelled functions, powered by lithium batteries.

Small vehicle is a removable or non-removable lithium battery powered equipment that used for personal transportation, including rideable suitcases.

SalamAir policy for accepting Smart Luggage and Small Vehicles:

Although the small vehicles, including rideable luggage, might sound like or serve as mobility aids for personal transportation, they are still considered as PED as per the Regulations.
Most self-balancing devices, hoverboards, electric scooters, rideable suitcases, and similar personal transportation devices contain lithium batteries exceeding 160 Wh and are therefore prohibited on SalamAir flights.
Smart luggage and small vehicles equipped with a permanently installed (non-removable) lithium battery are not permitted as either carry-on or checked baggage on SalamAir flights.
However, SalamAir accepts smart baggage/Small vehicle fitted with a single removable lithium battery, provided the battery is removed and carried in the cabin.

Note:

A single removable lithium battery rated below 100 Wh may be carried in the cabin without prior approval.
A single removable lithium battery rated between 100 Wh and 160 Wh requires prior approval from SalamAir.*

3.3 Electronic Bag Tag:

Definition:

Bag tags are devices that are replacing the paper baggage label and for the quick drop-off points at the airports; and GPS tracking devices that are attached to baggage and/or other belongings for tracking purposes with or without GSM capability, Bluetooth, RFID, or Wi-Fi technologies.

SalamAir policy for accepting electronic baggage tags:

Electronic baggage tags and baggage tracking devices (e.g., Bluetooth, RFID, GPS trackers) are permitted provided:

They comply with applicable lithium battery limits.
They are securely attached to the baggage.
The battery is not damaged, defective, or recalled

Use the table below as a quick reference to determine whether your PEDs, PMEDs, spare batteries, power banks, smart baggage, and small vehicles are permitted on SalamAir flights.

4. Battery-powered mobility aids (wheelchairs working with battery)

You may carry a maximum of one spare wet, non-spillable battery, or two spare nickel metal hydride or dry batteries. Please note that prior approval is required. Battery-powered mobility aids with spillable batteries	You may carry battery-powered wheelchairs or other similar mobility devices with spillable batteries. Please ensure that the battery of your mobility aid(s) is fitted, where feasible, with spill-resistant vent caps. If your mobility aid cannot always be loaded, stowed, secured and unloaded in an upright position, or if your mobility aid does not adequately protect its battery, the battery must be removed. The removed battery must be carried in strong, rigid packaging, which is leak-tight and impervious to battery fluid. The removed battery must also be protected from short circuits, be secured upright in its packaging, and be surrounded by compatible absorbent material that can sufficiently absorb its total liquid contents. The packaging must be marked “BATTERY, WET, WITH WHEELCHAIR” or “BATTERY, WET, WITH MOBILITY AID”, and the “Corrosive” and “Package Orientation” labels must be attached. This completed package will be loaded in the cargo compartment. Please note that prior approval is required. Battery-powered mobility aids with lithium-ion batteries	You may travel with battery-powered wheelchairs or similar mobility aids equipped with lithium-ion batteries, subject to the following conditions: Mobility aids with non-removable lithium-ion batteries are not accepted on SalamAir flights. If your mobility aid has a removable lithium-ion battery, you must remove the battery. The battery must not exceed 300 Wh. If your mobility aid has two removable batteries, each battery must not exceed 160 Wh. Removed battery(ies) must be placed in protective pouches and carried in the passenger cabin. Ensure all removed batteries are properly packed to prevent short-circuiting or damage. Please note that prior approval is required.
